    Hello Central Texas 'Grassers! Due to the complexities and vagaries of everyday life, we have had to reschedule the 2024 CTBA Band Scramble & Garage Sale. We are now looking forward to seeing everyone at Sagebrush on Sunday, February 25th.

    Here's the schedule:

    3PM Doors and Garage Sale open

    4PM Bands form

    4-5PM Bands rehearse

    5-7PM Bands perform

    7PM Garage Sale closes

    Will it be cold? Probably not! But if it is a little chilly, Sagebrush has more than enough room for seven-to-eight (to nine?) bands to rehearse indoors. And, as always, the Band Scramble will be hosted by Central Texas Bluegrass Luminary, the one and only Mr. Eddie Collins.

    With the Garage Sale approaching, we are making a call for donations. If you have old instruments lying around, collecting dust - we want 'em! We'd love any musical instruments and music-related accessories you'd be willing to donate to the CTBA. And, as always, all donations to the CTBA are 100% tax-deductible.

    NEW LOCATION FOR THE CTBA SUNDAY JAM: SAGEBRUSH

    A big, big thanks to everyone who came out to our 45th Annual Meeting & Show on Sunday. What a great event!!!

    We need a new location for the CTBA Sunday Bluegrass Jam, of course, and we are thrilled to say that Sagebrush wants to have us back!

    So we'll be moving the CTBA Sunday Bluegrass Jam to Sagebrush starting this Sunday, November 19th.

    We'll see y'all pickers, grinners, rounders, etc (just about) every Sunday at Sagebrush (5500 S. Congress) from 3-5PM!!!

    CTBA 45th ANNUAL MEETING & SHOW

    NEW VENUE AND TIME!!!

    Hey everybody, it's Jon Lundbom, the President of the Central Texas Bluegrass Association.

    You may have heard by now, but this morning Oskar Blues reached out to let us know that they were closing their Austin production facility and brewpub, effective immediately.

    First and foremost, I want to thank Oskar Blues for their absolutely tremendous support of Bluegrass and, more specifically, the CTBA. Oskar Blues Austin has been a wonderful partner for many, many years and we greatly appreciate the support.

    This has left us in a difficult position re: our Annual Meeting, but thanks to the hard work of our Board of Directors (and our friend Beth Chrisman) we have managed to move the event to Sagebrush!

    The event will be a bit earlier in the day, with a jam starting at 1PM, the Karl Shiflett & Big Country Show at 2:30, and The Po' Ramblin' Boys at 3:30. But we are very grateful that everything worked out.

    More info to come, but we will see y'all there!

    45th CTBA ANNUAL MEETING

    FEATURING THE PO' RAMBLIN' BOYS

    We are thrilled to announce that the 45th CTBA Annual Meeting will be held at Oskar Blues Austin on Sunday, November 12th, 2023. And the meeting will feature a performance from the Po' Ramblin' Boys!

    CJ Lewandowski formed the Po' Ramblin' Boys in 2014. Since then, they have recorded for Rounder Records, been nominated for Grammy awards, and were named 2018 IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year. This year, they are nominated for IBMA Entertainer of the Year. And we are THRILLED to have them perform for our little organization here in Central Texas.

    There is much to do, much more information to come before November 12th. But here are a few key details to keep in mind:

    (1) This will be a private, ticketed event at Oskar Blues Austin.

    (2) Entrance will be FREE (with reservation) to CTBA members in good standing.

    (3) Tickets will be $25 to non-members.

    We here at CTBA HQ could not be more excited to put on a show for our membership and friends here in Central Texas. Mark you calendars and get excited for an amazing night of bluegrass!

    LOSSES

    With a heavy heart, we are sad to report that we have lost two longstanding members of the Central Texas Bluegrass community. Buck Buchanan and Alice Moore have recently passed.

    Buck was one of the original CTBA members and served for years and years as a CTBA officer. He took particular pride in the CTBA newsletter, back when it was printed new each month. (No small feat, indeed!) Alice served on the CTBA board and as a CTBA officer as well. She performed in CTBA member-bands for many, many years, and she was a beloved member of the Central Texas Bluegrass community.

    We will have more thorough remembrances in our next newsletter, but passings in our community of course deserve prompt attention. Buck's obituary can be found here; Alice's obituary can be found here. Much love to all.
